{"id":1289,"date":"2009-01-03T18:04:25","date_gmt":"2009-01-03T17:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/whiteberg.wordpress.com\/2009\/01\/03\/den-europ%c3%a6iske-helt\/"},"modified":"2009-01-03T18:04:25","modified_gmt":"2009-01-03T17:04:25","slug":"den-europ%c3%a6iske-helt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.whiteberg.dk\/?p=1289","title":{"rendered":"Den europ\u00e6iske helt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I anledning af 80-\u00e5ret for tegneseriehelten <a href=\"http:\/\/da.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tintin\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Dansk wikipedia\">Tintin<\/a>s debut (p\u00e5 en rejse til Sovjet) og hele tre snarlige Hollywood-versioner af den lille journalists eventyr, fors\u00f8ger altid interessante <strong>The Economist<\/strong> at besvare, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/displaystory.cfm?story_id=12795471\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"A very European hero\">hvorfor Tintin er s\u00e5 popul\u00e6r i Europa og totalt ukendt i USA<\/a>. Det hele starter med en ret opsigtsv\u00e6kkende fransk lov:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>IT IS one of Europe\u2019s more startling laws. In 1949 France banned children\u2019s books and comic strips from presenting cowardice in a \u201cfavourable\u201d light, on pain of up to a year in prison for errant publishers. It was equally forbidden to make laziness or lying seem attractive. The law created an oversight committee to watch for positive depictions of these ills, along with crime, theft, hatred, debauchery and acts \u201cliable to undermine morality\u201d among the young.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Loven var vedtaget for at forhindre import af amerikanske tegneserier, der ans\u00e5s for umoralske og voldelige, og var et led i den kontinentale kulturelle oprustning i efterkrigstiden &#8211; kulturel protektionisme af den gamle skuffe. Der var mange s\u00e5r, der skulle heles &#8211; eller skjules &#8211; og Tintins l\u00f8sningsmodeller og helte-type markerede sig som en s\u00e6rligt europ\u00e6isk tilgang til uorden, kriminalitet og despotisme &#8211; de sm\u00e5 forandringers fremskridt. Tintin er EU, Bruxelles og tusinde sm\u00e5 paragraffer, der skaber en stor syntetisk ligev\u00e6gt og balance mellem synd og dyder &#8211; de amerikanske tegneseriehelte knuser derimod synden fuldst\u00e6ndigt, gerne med ikke-statsautoriseret vold.<\/p>\n<p>Tintin opererer altid indenfor loven og altid i det sm\u00e5 med respekt for adel og den st\u00e5ende samfundsorden. Hans heltetype er ikke opr\u00f8reren eller revolution\u00e6ren, den ensomme ulv, der skaber sine egne regler. Han er snusfornuftig indtil det renskurede og bruger stort set aldrig vold, undtagen i modereret selvforsvar. Han st\u00e5r for de sm\u00e5 \u00e6ndringer og lader loven om de store. Ganske vist k\u00e6mper han mod despoter, men forestiller sig ikke, at han kan \u00e6ndre samfundet i de store tr\u00e6k. Ligesom Herg\u00e9 selv &#8211; der ret kontroversielt tegnede videre for avisen <em>Le Soir<\/em>, der var venligt stemt overfor de tyske bes\u00e6ttelsesmyndigheder. Herg\u00e9 p\u00e5kaldte sig &#8211; som s\u00e5 mange andre europ\u00e6ere &#8211; neutralitet, men gav den slags virkelig mening, mens krigen rasede? The Economist har denne kommentar:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>There is a link between Herg\u00e9, this disappointing man, and his creation Tintin, who fights against despots so bravely. It lies in the rationalisation of impotence: a very European preoccupation.<\/p>\n<p>The key to Tintin is that he has the mindset of \u201csomeone born in a small country\u201d, says Charles Dierick, in-house historian at the Herg\u00e9 Studios. He is \u201cthe clever little guy who outsmarts big bullies\u201d. And as a little guy, even a clever one, Tintin\u2019s bravery works within limits: he rescues friends, and foils plots. But when he finds himself in Japanese-controlled Shanghai, in \u201cThe Blue Lotus\u201d, he can do nothing to end the broader problem of foreign occupation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>(&#8230;)<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Interviewed late in life, Herg\u00e9 acknowledged the links between his wartime experiences and his moral outlook. The second world war lies behind a great deal in Tintin, just as it lies deep beneath the political instincts of many on the European continent. It matters a lot that the Anglo-Saxon world has a different memory of that same war: it is a tragic event, but not a cause for shame, nor a reminder of impotence.<\/p>\n<p>Tintin has never fallen foul of the 1949 French law on children\u2019s literature. He is not a coward, and the albums do not make that vice appear in a favourable light. But he is a pragmatist, albeit a principled one. Perhaps Anglo-Saxon audiences want something more from their fictional heroes: they want them imbued with the power to change events, and inflict total defeat on the wicked. Tintin cannot offer something so unrealistic.
